After several conversations on the topic, I am really curious about this question:
What is the ratio following to followers by gender?
please reblog or email me your answer. You don’t have to disclose your actual number of followers, just a simple male/female/trans and the ratio of following over followers and the number of months you’ve been on tumblr. My guess is women will have a ratio of 0.75 and men will be closer to 1.8. If I get enough of a sample I’ll post the results in a couple of days.
unless marco has this data and can just answer it easily??

This and below, images from photographer James Mollison who photographed devoted fans at rock concerts everywhere: the show is on until August 16 at Hasted Hunt Gallery. So. Going.

Looks like a great show. When people attend a concert, they definitely subscribe to the image of that band in what they wear, lending the opportunity to exhibit a cross-section of culture. I like the presentation of it.

Just saw something that reminded me of this project… really great, simple and innovative idea - transforming toy dogs into toxin search machines. “Whereas most consumer robots are designed to dance, yap, or vacuum the rug, the Feral Robotic Dogs are equipped with a social agenda.”

The project is also exploits the commercial marketplace in a positive + productive way. “Why reverse-engineer a commercial toy? Jeremijenko’s “open-source” tactics aim to exploit the distribution power of the corporate toymakers, whose economy of scale makes these digital dogs an inexpensive way to get a sophisticated robotics platform into the hands of kids. Her project also helps kids recognize the consequences of consumer choices and imagine toys and technologies with a different purpose. As she explains, “Robotic toys embody a particular view of learning and entertainment. Are we equipping our children to address the technological future, or are we simply training them to push buttons in predetermined, pre-scripted interactions?” “
